More than just a teacher

We dedicate this page to our hero Eddie McCarthy

Forever Connected

When Roman's Geometry teacher heard our plea in February, he felt compelled to get himself tested. Not even knowing his own blood type, he drove to the U of M and started the kidney donor process. When he found out he was the right blood type ( they both have O+ blood ), he continued the testing process. After enduring 5 months of rigorous lab work and multiple procedures, he found out he was the perfect match! Now they share a special bond for the rest of their lives.

Math brought them together

Roman has always been a bright student in school. It was because of this that he was able to get ahead in some of his classes. He started his Freshman year in McCarthy's Sophomore Geometry class. Eddie saw Roman every day and said he was a quiet but wonderful student to have in class. The odds that he would have him in class at the same time that Roman desperately needed a kidney was nothing short of a miracle. Because he knew Roman, it inspired him to get himself tested to see if he could at least try to help. All it took was that first step to make a difference. I hope our story helps others find their very own Mr. McCarthy.
